Movie Review by Zara
March 12th, 2007

While he got high...

Robert Downey Jr turned in an Oscar nominated Best Actor performance in this movie as the title character of Charles Chaplin. He also admits that he was constantly high at the time, thus proving that some of our most brilliant entertainers are better while on drugs.

The movie is a very strong bio-pic, bringing to the screen the story of a man who most people remember through photographs and bits of weathered old film. It is full of color for a time when film was not, showcasing most of what people did not know about The Tramp's personal life.

Married several times and in love with very young girls, it was hard for people at the time to forgive Chaplin for pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable, no matter how much they enjoyed his movies. Much of what happened in his life was pushed down and forgotten, this movie bringing it back up to the surface in a great way.

This movie is worth watching for Downey's performance alone. Just remember... that's an actor. That's an actor acting on drugs.
