Movie Review by Lisa
February 2nd, 2007

For those of you who are not familiar with the comic genius of Mr. Rik Mayall please allow me to bring you up to date. Rik Mayall is an English comedian responsible for in my opinion 2 of the funniest shows of the late 70's to early 90's with the "Young Ones" and later "Bottom".

In this film we see a somewhat tamed down version of Rik in which he plays 'Drop Dead Fred' the childhood imaginary friend of Lizzie played by Phoebe Cates (that chick from the Gremlins movie).

Lizzie is a pretty pitiful character and when her husband leaves her imaginary friend comes back to cause all kind of problems and help stand up for herself. The movie jumps back and forth in time to show clips of the thing little Lizzie got up to with Fred, and how Lizzie was stifled by her over powering mother.

I had 3 copies of this movie growing up, one at my grandparents house and 2 at home. I love Rik in this although I've seen him do better, Phoebe Cates annoys the hell outta me, and in combination with Rik it's forgiven.

Agreed! Rik as Fred is a delight. This movie always made me wish I'd had an imaginary friend growing up!
