Movie Review by Steven
August 3rd, 2007

"The Witches" is a great story from Roald Dahl who wrote "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". It is a story about a kid named Luke who is told about witches from his grandmother. After his parents are killed (which is always the case in most of Roald Dahl's stories), he goes with his grandmother to a posh secluded hotel in England where he stumbles upon a secretive plot.

At the hotel, a charity for children is organized, and the head of the charity is run by Anjelica Huston, who is actually the Grand High Witch. She and the coven of witches plot to turn all of Englan'd children into mice. Instead of poison , the Grand High Witch develops a small "magic" formula that will turn the children into mice. (Think of the possiblities) The rest of teh film entails Luke and his grandmother turning the tables on the witches.

The film was directed by Nicolas Roeg, who driected the suspense classic "Don't Look Now." He uses incredible lighting and great camera shots that adds the riight edge to the film. The best is Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch, who had loads of fun playing a villainess. This was before Morticia Addams.

"The Witches" is one of my favorite movies. It has adventure, fantasy and suspense. Damn good for being a children's film.
