The mega corporation Omni Consumer Products is still bent on creating their pet project, Delta City, to replace the rotting city of Detroit. Unfortunately, the inhabitants of the area have no intention of abandoning their homes simply for desires of the company. To this end, OCP have decided to force them to leave by employing a ruthless mercenary army to attack and harass them. An underground resistance begins and in this fight, Robocop must decide where his loyalties lie.
Robocop 3 is the big reason why film classics such as Robocop shouldnt have sequels. This is the third and final film in the franchise and sports the third and worse director the franchise has gone through. Besides a classic 1987 film called The Monster Squad, Fred Dekker hasnt done much for the world of film. His first mistake when approaching Robocop 3 is the change in its rating. With the first two films taking advantage of the R rating they were received, Fred puts in less violence to make for a Pg-13 film, which was wrong to do. One of the most glorious things with Robocop was the excessive violence which was carried into the second, but ruined by this movie.
John Weller played as Robocop in the two first films, so another mistake Fred did was going along with the film with a change of cast. Robert John Burke takes over the role of Robocop and does an absoulutely horrible job. I actually cant blame John for looking out on this one and avoiding it at all costs. Robert does fit the movements of Robocop which John set an example for but his voice (enhanced by audio elements) was annoying and the way he expressed it was stupid and a complete waste of time.
Instead of the plot revolving around Robocops past and him wiping out crime in the city, we find a group of survivors trying to escpae from the people from the Rehab center. When these men kill his partner though, he tends to get revenge. I never knew a robot could have those kinds of feelings. Revenge? Bertha, played by CCH Pounder, is the leader of this mini group they got going on and Robocop follows them and takes their side. Though he is framed for murder of another cop, hes not the only one in the force to switch sides. The captain of OCP and all the officers switch to help Bertha and all of them against the Rehab people and their Splatter Punk friends.
Robocop flies, thanks to a jet pack one of his technical advisors designs for him. Now I do know that this is a science fiction film which takes place in the future, but they took it to far with the jet pack thing. At this point in the franchise, their running dry out of ideas and seemed to just throw things into the film to entertain us. It didnt work.
Robocop 3 is stupid and a complete waste of time, and the reason Robocop shouldve stayed a classic film, without the worthless sequels.
