Movie Review by Zara
November 10th, 2007

I wish I could give this a better rating. I really do. I know that there are people who are deeply in love with the movie and that it's a sentimental favorite. But there are portions of the movie where I was bored to tears.

I'm from California, so surfing is either something you do or something that you're sick of hearing the people who do it talk about. It's not some foreign, alluring sport that you wonder about because you've never seen the ocean. At least, it's not for me.

This was also the first movie that I remember seeing Lori Petty in and while I grew to tolerate and even like her in some instances, I really f*cking hated her in this movie. Obnoxious, smug and arrogant when she didn't deserve the right to be (her character, at least), I just can't look past how much she tainted the movie for me.

Personally, my favorite part about the movie is Gary Busey. At the time we didn't know what a crazy f*cker he was going to turn out to be, but there are hints of it here that are hilarious in retrospect. He's a great actor, and as I've found out over the years, you've got to be a little crazy to be good.

Everyone in the movie is pretty, Anthony Keidis from RHCP is a thug in it and well... there's Keanu. So there's some retribution right there.
