Guilty Pleasure

Favorite Movie Quote: "Death is the only adventure you have left!"

Hook is probably one of my favorite kid movies of all time. I was never too hot on Peter Pan, well maybe I should say that Peter Pan was never one of my favorite stories, but Hook really touched me in a way that made me adore it.

I mean the cast did a remarkable job but its not a "TIM" cast....I usually cant stand Julia Roberts, I normally could care less about Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman is great but not someone I look for. Without a doubt Bob Hoskins is my favorite actor in the film. His character of Smee is funny, witty and just an all around joy to watch. I thought Julia Roberts was the weakest link in the film, she just aggravates me to no end and I cant understand why she is so popular.

The set decorations and the costumes where just wonderful. You read the story of Peter Pan and Neverland as a child and Steven Spielberg made Neverland come alive and without the help of Michael Jackson......ok that was probably a bad joke.

The special effects were not ground breaking but they didn't need to be. Neverland is about imagination and fun, so yes you could see the harness making the people fly sometimes and other things were very easy to determine that they were FAKE but the movie still rolls smoothly and it really just doesn't matter.

Its also really cool that so many people had cameos in this film such as George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, Glenn Close, Phil Collins, Gwyneth Paltrow and even Jimmy Buffett. Seems like several people thought Spielberg was making a hit...even though it turns out that Spielberg himself was disappointed with the final result.

The character of Rufio played by Dante Basco was one of my favorites....he looked so cool with the red and black hair kind of shaped into a mow hawk. Then he had the cool leather clothes and the Pan sword. When going into battle at the end he was even able to pull off wearing eyeliner and still looked tough.....lol....thats an accomplishment!

I don't know, every time I watch this film I feel like I am sucked into the fantasy of Neverland...with pirates and kids that never get old. Its a timeless story that deserved a good film adaptation and I think it got it.
