Movie Review by Terrence
May 12th, 2007

Not as good as the book but good.

"Fried Green Tomatoes" is a wonderful movie that probably falls short to those who've read the book.

The film follows the story of Evelyn Couch played by Kathy Bates who is an unhappy housewife who is inspired by the stories of Ninny Treadgood played by Jessica Tandy an old woman living in a nursing home.

The stories Ninny Treadgood tell Evelyn are shown throughout the film as flashbacks in a kind of linear order. They are the stories of two women and their life together starting from their early teenage years. The lesbian relationship between the two women are toned down in the film, and that's kind of disappointing.

The funny actually has some funny scenes to. There is a funeral that actually makes me laugh to this day when I think about it. You'll laugh too.

This is still a wonderful movie with great performances, but I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if the filmmakers had more courage.

The movie dragged for me. Perhaps it's because I wasn't in the target demographic when I first watched it and need to give it another go in about 10 years, (holy f*ck, I'm getting old) but it was exactly as you rated it: a 3 star mediocre affair.
