Doesn't everyone want to be that horse?
Remember back in the day, long, long ago when actresses didn't look like human lollipops? When you could see a woman who had boobs that weren't implants or just nipples? I miss those days too. Way back in the early '90's when most people were of the opinion that a good looking woman was one who actually LOOKED like a woman. Thick eyebrows and all.
Before I get too far off-track, let me tell you that CAREER OPPORTUNITIES is story about a small town guy known as the town liar. He's a dreamer with no ambitions to make any of those dreams come true. He's been fired from every job that he's ever had (sometimes several times over) and is being threatened to get kicked out of his parent's house if he can't get a job at Target to stick. The premise is simple and tired, with the movie being made about 5 years too late to catch the wave of popularity that the stupid, pointless movies of the '80's enjoyed.
But it's just weird enough to work in its own twisted little way. The selling point is not Frank Whaley as the lead character Jim (whoever thought Whaley could be visually appetizing for women must have been the same person who thought that Jon Cryer would work as a teeny-bopper object of lust) but Jennifer Connelly. Just prior to getting really freaky on screen and yet long before she started looking like a head on a stick, this movie thrives on her sexual vibrancy. I defy anyone to tell me there has been a woman who could wear a plain white tank top better than she did. Current actresses should take note: THAT is how a woman should look.
