Movie Review by Lark
August 26th, 2007

Yet another flick from my childhood...

...that I didn't re-watch before thrusting it upon my two boys, aged 7 & 3. Maybe I should have? They watched it once through while I was at work, then we used the projector to show it big-time on the wall while my 7 year old had a friend over for a sleepover. I thought nothing of it. After the movie and some popcorn, my son's friend was crying (he didn't say why) and wanted to go home.

Last night I watch it with the boys. Um, yeah, maybe a little bit disturbing, what with the the whole Hell aspect, the evil robot Bill & Teds peeling their faces off to reveal the mechanical innards, the freaky Alien(s?) Station with the ginormous asses? They still seemed to enjoy it, so I suppose they're just a tad twisted like me, but maybe their lil buddy is not so into the creepiness? I appreciated it on a whole 'nother level as an adult with the cameos by Primus and Big Jim Martin of Faith No More....and the scenes I remembered best of B&T playing board games against the Grim Reaper still felt fun for me. But still, I find myself realizing that maybe I should revisit these nostalgic pieces before I offer them up for the kiddies. Overall, I still dig it, and even though Wyld Stalyns was a pretty queer band, I'd probably vote for 'em in a Battle of the Bands....though maybe not over Les Claypool and Tommy the Cat.

I think this one gets less credit than it deserves, but at the same time the first movie will always be closer to my heart.

If you like Alex Winter and have any sort of weird bone in your body, you have to watch FREAKED.
