Surprisingly Sexy
If anyone remembers the eighties & early nineties, Mickey Rourke could've very well been a soft-core porn star much like Rutger Hauer. Essentially Rourke played similiar characters in nearly every one of his films but with different actresses ofcourse & all of them were beautiful women.
Wild Orchid is your basic hotter-than-hell romance which takes place under the Brazilian sun. Sure, the film is out-dated & the DVD does little to mask the age but what a sizzler! The plot may not be anything to write home about but I'm sure you'll find much here to enjoy. Zalman King crafted a near visual feast which will definitely appeal to the eyes with gorgeous photography, awesome costumes, & ofcourse very sensual love scenes to daydream about for days on end.....
Call me crazy or just sentimental but I remembered seeing this film as a kid in the multiplexes at the tender age of 14. I didn't know quite what I was in for & felt a tad bit guilty watching this in a room of adults but the film somewhat stuck with me. Wild Orchid mages to be touching in ways that most films aren't & the chemistry between the characters in breath-taking. The final scene between Otis & Rourke is enough to send you gasping for breath & nearly begging for water.
If dream-like imagery & a Brazilian carnival settting grab your attention, you will probably enjoy this film. Although I'm sure Wild Orchid will probably seem tame to most viewers now as the latest trend is to show actual sex scenes, this is still one of the better examples of erotic drama we have & it's readily available.
