Movie Review by Tim

Quid pro quo. Yes or no?

Favorite Movie Quote: "I see. I myself cannot. You use Evian skin cream, and sometimes you wear L'Air du Temps, but not today."

Silence Of The Lambs is a good movie but why it gets the credit that it does is a big of a mystery to me. For a 1991 film it looks surprisingly dated as a mid 80's film. The plot in interesting but I find it slow at times. The characters are good, but besides Hopkins I found the performances to be at best average.

The first half of the film is the worse. I found that Jodie Foster's West Virginia accent was just a little too much and the more and more I heard it I started to hate her for the way she talked. Foster always has had a little bit of a southern accent but in this film it was almost like she was trying to hard to get into the character and just went overboard with it.

I look at this film and then look at a film like Seven (Pitt, Freeman) and think how could this film even be compared with it. Hannibal Lector is definitely a neat character but I feel like without him this movie would have flopped and really the story centers around Clarice Starling trying to catch the serial killer Jame 'Buffalo Bill' Gumb which was played by Ted Levine. So the best thing in the film isn't the center of attention which I found annoying.

None of the mutilation or violent scenes were really anything to remember. Your movie focuses on a serial killer that skins their victims to make a dress out of human skin yet there really is not one memorable scene that was nasty or violent enough for you to remember, hell I just watched this last night and cant recall one sitting here writing this review.

When the second half hits the film picks up the pace a little but still not enough for me to praise this film. I thought the best part of the film was when Lector broke out of prison and used a Billy club on Charles Napier which I know as being Rambo's nemesis in Rambo First Blood Part 2. Then Hannibal cuts his face off to help escape prison which was cool but then again after that the film starts slowing back down.

I thought it was cool how the F.B.I. was at the wrong house and Agent Starling was at the right house not knowing it, and the camera kind of fools the audience when Buffalo Bill opens the door. The battle between Starling and Bill at the end was disappointing and just overly fake. He had so many upper hands, such as that she was walking around in complete darkness and he had night vision goggles, it was his house so he knew all the hiding places and he had the bigger gun. Starling manages to empty her gun into his chest before he even gets a shot off, seems a little too easy for as nervous as she was which was OVER dramatized by Foster's annoying over acting. The panting and shaking looked really unnatural, again Foster just didn't impress me.

Oh yeah how the hell did Chris Isaak make it in this film.....shouldn't he have been off writing Wicked Game...

Wow. A lot of your points, it's hard to argue with because it's just your opinion. So since I can't argue with my usual unassailable logic I find myself forced to declare a Jihad on you! ALLLLAAAAHHH!!!

Yeah, I'm one of those people who love it. At some point I'll finish my review on it. I like that the people who are regulars on this website are unafraid to fly in the face of general opinion.
