Pretty Woman? Pretty Awful!!!

My wife and I have been together for almost twenty years and we agree on most things: except for where this movie is concerned. She could watch this movie once a week quite comfortably, I on the other hand, would rather scoop my eyeballs out with hot spoons than ever having to watch it again.

Pretty Woman is the tale of surprisingly well groomed and drug-free hooker, Vivian (Julia Roberts) who desperately wants to the quit the life, though her drug addled wh*re-friend, Kit (Laura San Giacomo) keeps screwing up and spending their money on drugs (sorry, the 'D' word doesn't get mentioned)...I mean 'partying', so the escape is out of reach. Lucky for Vivian though, she meets a corporate wanker who can't hang onto a girl, Edward (Richard Gere), who is at a point in his bored lifestyle where he doesn't want to make money by destroying other people's businesses, but would rather become romantically involved with a slutty Cinderella, all the while fighting off the thinly veiled, psuedo sexually confused advances of his pudgey lawyer Stuckey (Jason Alexander). Of course, as is the template for this sort of film, the romance hits the rocks...can this money-bagged moron and his gold-digging skank's relationship survive?

Pretty Woman mixes The Taming of the Shrew with Cinderella and adds a dash of eighties excessive lifestyles of the rich and lusicrous and the joys of prostitution to make a big bag of rubbish. Richard Gere plays his usual plank of wood, Jason Alexander is even more annoying than his 'George ' character from Seinfeld, Laura San Giacomo couldn't have been more loathsome if she was wearing a hat made of cow manure and Julia Roberts in the title role...isn't the movie called PRETTY Woman?

Full of great messages: prostitution is fun, marrying a rich man is better than achieving something yourself and all lawyers are evil money grubbing trolls, Pretty Woman is a great example of a movie which if you like it, will make your other half doubt your good taste.

I shall give it one star for a kitchy-cool 80s soundtrack though!!

I have to admit that I've watched this film more times than I should have. It was a favorite of a former roommate of mine and was dragged out almost as often as I forced her to sit through RESERVOIR DOGS.

I wouldn't say I hate the movie, but I do hate what it stands for. THE RUNAWAY BRIDE is actually much funnier and contains the two main characters from this flick. I'd recommend that over this.
