Movie Review by Jarrod
July 31st, 2007

'Kindergarten Cop' is strangely not for kids, its content too violent, its imagery too scary, with a primary school being plagued by fire, a shoot-out in the bathroom, people dying and getting injured, all the components of an action movie, and that is what this is on a basic level, but it is also charming and sentimental, often quite funny, as you see Arnold Schwarzenegger reading stories to 6-year-olds, and preparing them for a presentation of the Gettysburg Address, they grow to adore him, and he becomes a talented and inspiring teacher, which begins as nothing more than a facade. He is John Kimble, a tough cop on the trail of a recently released crook named Cullen Crisp (Richard Tyson), who is looking for his ex-wife Rachel (Penelope Ann Miller) and their son Dominic. Cullen is accompanied by his dastardly mother Eleanor (Carroll Baker), who is willing to do whatever it takes to get her grandchild. Rachel poses as Joyce, a kindergarten teacher. Kimble poses as one, too, undercover, to watch her, and wait for Crisp to show up. In the process, he falls for her, and his pint-sized students, who at first drive him crazy. Linda Hunt is great at the principal, who likes John, and watches his progress, both amusingly and admiringly.

She also likes it when he punches the abusive father of one of the children. The movie follows a rather predictable course, but it is enjoyable, with Schwarzenegger surprisingly good, having some humorous lines, though his action hero persona catches up with him in the final scenes. Miller is solid, as is Pamela Reed, as Phoebe, Kimble's partner. It gives us a softer side of Schwarzenegger, and it is not all that bad, but I like him best when he blows stuff up. There is not any blood, per se, but its PG-13 rating is well-earned, nonetheless.

Great review. Yeah I agree with you that he is best as Commando or his character from True Lies. Senseless violence is just so much fun!
