Beware of Bathtubs
Just before Tim Robbins got all persecuted in Shawshank he was getting very much harassed in Jacob's Ladder. This is an excellent piece of thriller crossed with horror, it is painful, claustrophobic and disorientating. It is also one of those flicks that can be easily ruined if you have not seen it. There are several other nuances to note; it is shoot in a superbly apt way, the 'special effects' are not too dated and indeed have been copied many times since and the supporting cast boasts a few names that could entice you further; Elizabeth Pena, Ving Rhames, Jason Alexander and a little Macualay Culkin. The latter making an appearance in a bona fide horror and not the other shocking films of his at that time.
I really enjoyed this film, I first watched it half my life ago and always try and catch it when it gets repeated on various movie channels.

Jacob's Ladder was definitely a first-rate horror/thriller. It was quite unsettling at times.
Jacob's descent into Hell while being wheeled on a hospital bed was one of the movie's most noteworthy scenes. |
