Edward Scissorhands
The story starts with a dear, sweet grand-mother telling her grand-daughter where snow comes from. As the grand-mother thinks back she remembers the dark and gothic mansion on the hill that over looked the cheerful middle-class neighborhood where she lived as a teenager. In the mansion is where Edward lived, played by Johnny Depp. Edward is the unfinished product of a bizarre inventor, played by Vincent Price, who dies before he could complete his masterpiece. Leaving Edward with scissors as his hands.
A kind Avon representative, Peg Boggs, played by Dianne West, goes to the mansion where she finds a frightened Edward. She brings him home to her family. A loving and totally understand husband, a unfriendly teenage daughter Kim, played by Winona Ryder, and young son. Edward quickly falls in love with Kim. Kim's jealous, obnoxious boyfriend Jim (Anthony Michael Hall), is not fond of Edward and begins to tease and bully him.
With scissors as hands Edward finds himself manicuring shrubbery, dogs, and housewives' hair. He quickly becomes the town celebrity. After everything seems to be going good for Edward he predictably gets into some trouble helping Jim commit a crime, which is exactly what Jim wants.
Edward feels forced to return to the dark, lonely mansion. With Jim not satisfied that Edward has left. Jim follows him to the mansion for more confrontation. For the rest of this magical tale you need to watch.
Tim Burton and his genius imagination has made a truly astonishing fairytale. The gothic mansion is chillingly gorgeous, and the scenes with Kim dancing in snow flakes falling from Edward's ice sculptures are mesmerizing.

| I love the scene where he's getting slathered with the make-up while she's trying to figure out which color goes with his skin tone and he ends up covered in purple goop and yet still smiles so sweetly. |

| I don't specifically recall the details of the movie as I saw it some time ago, but I was listening to the soundtrack by Danny Elfman. I especially like "With These Hands" by Tom Jones. This is not Elman's typical hyperactivity, but sweetness and playfulness, as well as melancholy and tradegy. Brilliant score! |
