Movie Review by Jessica
January 17th, 2007

Where to begin? The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classis. This is my all time favorite movie. As a little girl, I wanted to be Dorothy Gale, just to wear those red ruby slippers. To this day I still love every bit of this film.

Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) is the girl from Kansas that is swept away to the enchanted Land of Oz. Here she meets Glinda the Good Witch of the North (Billie Burke) and all the amazing munchkin's. Then she meets the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton), who appears to discover her sister the Wicked Witch of the East has just been killed by Dorothy's falling house. Not only was the Wicked Witch of the West upset that her sister had just been killed but she did not like Dorothy wearing the red ruby slippers. Glinda told Dorothy "keep tight inside them" because they are very powerful. Glinda quickly reminds the Wicked Witch of the West she has no powers in munchkin-land. The Wicked Witch of the West leaves but not before telling "I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too". Dorothy explains how badly she wants to return to Kansas, Glinda tells Dorothy the only person that could help her would be the great and powerful wizard of oz, and the only way to get there would be the yellow brick road.

As the journey begins down the yellow brick road Dorothy meets up with a talking Scarecrow without a brain, a Tin-Man with no heart, and a cowardly Lion. The four all in need of things are determined to make it to the Wizard of Oz. With the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys constantly working against them, they find it to be a completely exhausting task.

The four are on there way to see the wonderful wizard of oz. At last they can see the emerald city, just past the poppy field. They run thru the poppy field to find themselves very tired, and quickly Dorothy and the Lion fall asleep. The Tin-Man begins to cry and rust himself. The scarecrow yells for help and Glinda the good witch of the North – makes it snow. The snow wakes Dorothy and the Lion, they oil the tin-man and once again they're off to see the wizard. Once inside of the emerald city and after they're makeovers, the wizard will only grant there request if they bring him the broom stick of the wicked witch of the west. The four are on there way to the find the witch they start through the haunted forest. The flying monkeys capture Dorothy and Toto, tear apart the scarecrow and rough-up the Tin-Man and the Lion. After the monkeys fly away the Tin-Man and the Lion put the Scarecrow back together, by this time toto has managed to escape from the flying monkeys and find his way back to the haunted forest to the Scarecrow, the Tin-Man, and the Lion. Toto leads them to the witch's castle, where Dorothy is locked inside. The 3 cleverly disguise themselves to sneak in and help Dorothy escape. After they get Dorothy out of the locked room, they find themselves trapped and surrounded by the witch and her guards. The witch begins to mess with the scarecrow and puts fire on his arm. Dorothy trying to help, finds a bucket of water that she pores on him to put out the fire; the water hits the witch in the face and she begins melting. Dorothy ask for the broom stick, the guards happy to be free from the witch gladly give her the broom stick. Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin-Man, and The Lions return to the Emerald City with the witches broom stick in return for the items they requested. The wizard gave the scarecrow a diploma, he gave the tin-man a heart that ticks, and he gave the lion a metal of courage, but there wasn't anything in his bag for Dorothy. So the wizard agrees to take Dorothy back to Kansas himself. As they were trying to leave Toto jumps out of the hot air balloon, Dorothy quickly chases after him and the wizard's balloon takes off and he can't make it stop. Dorothy begins to cry and Glinda appears to tell her that she's always had the power to get back to Kansas, all she has to do is close her eyes and click her heels together threes time and think to herself "There's no place like home". Dorothy awakes to find herself safe in her bed with Auntie Em, Uncle Henry, Hunk, Zeke, Hickory, and Professor Marvel.

A lot of people favor this movie for several different reasons wether it is because its one of the 1st films shot in color, or the controversial scene that people still argue to this day if it was a hanging munchkin or a bird opening it's wings, or the special effects which were definitely advanced for its time in age. It's remembered by all ages and I think it will still stand up as one of the greatest films of all times 100 years from now.

Have you read Jessica Film Junkie's review of this flick? What do you think about all the Homosexual innuendo that she claims runs through this film? I can't see it myself. What do you think?
