Not only the best of the classic Universal horror films that I've seen, but quite possibly the best ever made in the genre, Whale's Frankenstein is completely haunting, chilling, and unforgettable. There is no musical score, which heightens the tension and adds to the already high amount of fright contributed by the brilliant cinematography, atmospheric direction, and an amazingly nuanced and painstakingly detailed performance by Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's misunderstood monster. If you're a horror fan, and haven't seen this movie...well, that's pretty much like committing a crime.
