Default So, what's this new HBO sci-fi series "The Beasts of Valhalla" starring Peter Dinklage?

So, what's this new HBO sci-fi series "The Beasts of Valhalla" starring Peter Dinklage?

Peter Dinklage is set to star as private eye Dr. Robert Frederickson, AKA Mongo The Magnificent, in a brand new HBO sci-fi TV series titled "The Beasts of Valhalla."

In the midst of the brouhaha occasioned by the awesome news that a "Farscape" movie was being written, this particular news got a bit of the brush-off.

But letís talk about it now, shall we? So, what is it?

"The Beasts of Valhalla" is based on a series of novels by the late George C. Chesbro and is being scripted by Justin Monjo (who is also writing the screenplay for the "Farscape" spin-off flick).

"The Game of Thrones" starís would-be character, private eye Dr. Robert Frederickson, is (of course) a dwarf who was once a circus acrobat (hence the name Mongo The Magnificent).

The gist of the story is that Frederickson puts himself through graduate school and eventually becomes a professor of criminology at NYU while also moonlighting as a fully-licensed, private sleuth.

The cool thing about "The Beasts of Valhalla" is that the books are set in the real world, but with a twist. There are some supernatural elements bleeding into it: "An Affair of Sorcerers" (the third novel in the series) happens to involve underground cults of warlocks as well as tarot readers in the Big Apple.

Monjo calls it a "grounded sci-fi" series, which is heading towards a pilot from HBO and Ben Stillerís Red Hour production company. He also adds that "HBO and Red Hour think [Dinklage] is perfect for the part and are very excited about the project."

What could be a bit somewhat spoilery-ish here is that the plan is to have Peter Dinklage shoot the one-hour series in 2016, right after Dinklage finishes "Game of Thrones." This timeline seems a bit...sorta...iffy.

Now, before everyone starts freaking out: itís not entirely impossible that the actor may end up juggling (pun intended) both roles in 2016, and it doesnít necessarily mean that his character Ė Tyrion Lannister Ė will be killed off. Dinklage is signed on for six seasons and could well sign up for season seven. "The Game of Thrones" creators see the series going up to season eight, and we can't imagine the show (as well as the George R.R. Martin books) going on without everyone's favorite Lannister - EVEN IF NO ONE IS SAFE on HBO's hit fantasy series (Tyrion's a bit of a favorite of the author and the show creators).

Still, what do you guys think about Peter Dinklage possibly starring in "The Beasts of Valhalla" for HBO? Does the premise sound interesting to you? Do you think we'll have double the Dinklage, double the fun?
