Cenobite is right - Downey Jr. has always been underrated (up until now I guess) and the movie was rather predictable, but I
still loved it. Maybe I had low expectations, or maybe I expected the hype to far exceed the quality, but I wasn't bored and could watch it over and over again. Why? I'm not exactly sure. I couldn't stand Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and I'm not sure that I was a huge fan of Jeff Bridges in the suddenly-evil role of Obadiah, either. Maybe it was just nice to see Downey Jr. in a larger budget action film? His fit with Tony Stark (well, his more apologetic side, anyway) was definitely a surprise - I had been skeptical. He was great at the role though!
On the contrary, I found myself bored with Hellboy II. The direction and visuals were absolutely amazing, and the story could have been fun, but I was disappointed with the film and I'm not sure why. Maybe because I am not an overly huge fan of Hellboy?
