Default Cut Chinese Scenes from IRON MAN 3 Will Be Featured in Short Film

MANIAC
Before the release of IRON MAN 3 last week, news surfaced that China would be getting their own cut of the film featuring extended scenes utilizing the country's actors Wang Xueqi and Fan Bingbing. While their characters appeared only about 10 seconds in the cut of the film in the rest of the world, they were given three minutes of screentime in China's cut. Xueqi played Dr. Wu, and in the special cut, meets Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the opening flashback in 1999, having a conversation with Jarvis, and then he shows up towards the end of the film to heal Stark's injuries with acupuncture aided surgery.

Meanwhile, Bingbing played the doctor's assistant. Well, apparently the actors and the Chinese production company DMG Entertainment, who worked with Marvel on the Chinese aspects of the film, are not happy about the final cut. While Xueqi was told that his role would have weight and be the one who save's Tony Stark's life (which is essentially true), his scene, along with Bingbing, was not nearly as significant as implied, and seems even superfluous. Another scene that featured Iron Man launching into the sky in front of Dr. Wu and a group of children at Yongdingmen gate in Beijing was lazily featured on a TV screen in the doctor's office in the Chinese cut, and thus not given much prominence in the film.

However, THR reports that the cut scenes will end up in some sort of short piece called The PROLOGUE, which would likely end up on the Blu-Ray and DVD release of the film. There's even talks that the scenes might air on TV in China, but both those possibilities are not guaranteed and are merely just speculation. The scenes will likely see the light of day at some point, but that's not the point. As someone who though this kind of special treatment was pandering for better box office, I can't say I feel sorry for DMG, but it does seem like they were misled a little bit and have a good reason to not be happy with Marvel, who is having a tough time pleasing a lot of people, especially The AVENGERS cast. Thoughts?
