Thumbs up Wolverine Origins: Another Catwoman or Elektra? Column....

I read this column and I think the writer made some good points.....

Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed / Sabretooth is a huge mistake.....Liev Schreiber can be creepy....(see Phantoms, Scream or Ransom) but there is a very fine line in creepy VS intimidating. Also I agree that they should have cast someone bigger then the actor playing Wolverine.

Will I Am or william or whatever his name is.....HORRIBLE, DREADFUL casting idea......This is a no-no...im sick and tired of casting singers or rappers in movies just because they are a familiar face.....if all the teenagers would quit giving Hollywood the impression that they will go see a movie just because Britany Spears, Lindsay Lohan or Will I Am is in it then Hollywood wouldnt do that anymore.

Thumbs up Bobby B had a great point on this one.

I agree with him that, while Liev Schreiber might not be the best choice, the role requires depth than someone like Tyler Mane (Sabertooth in the first X-Men movie) has. Ideally it would be a near 7 foot tall actor with the intensity of Liev Schreiber and the look of Tyler Mane.

As far as putting whatever flash-in-the pop star who is riding the last 45 seconds of their 15 minutes, it is quite simply a ploy to try to cator to every possible audience. This is a terrible move and I hope this trends ends quicker than the HDDVD format (that serves them for not allowing the porn industry to license their format.)

I'd bite your tongues before prejudging any pop star and their performances.

Eminem was actually what made 8 MILE (along with great direction) worth watching. He took the job seriously and did really well.

And I have a woman's memory for when shit gets mentioned, so I can bring up old comments that will come back to haunt you if you turn around and say later that he ended up being good.

(Heath Ledger was widely panned as the choice for The Joker in DARK KNIGHT, and even before his death, just after seeing the trailers, people all turned on a dime and changed their minds. Just based on a trailer. So be wary what you say.)

I don't want to bite my tongue on WillIAm.......Eminem wasn't horrible...but I also do not see a whole lot of roles being thrown at him.....I mean honestly....how hard is it for a rapper to play a rapper?? The whole film was incredibly close to being a biography for Marshall....even though he stated that the only way he would do the film is if it weren't........

That's like you being surprised that I could act believably as the owner of a movie site or a repo man (my old profession) in a film. I think I could pull it off just fine......and it would not be talent it would be natural.

The fact of the matter is that there are thousands of good actors that are starving for roles....that didn't get that part because they were not a known name......WillIAm is nothing but a name to cash in on.

Heath Ledger is different....I did not like Heath Ledger as a casting choice for Batman because I thought it could have been cast so much better....he is not a musician so it was purely just my taste.....I thought Ledger was great in The Patriot and Brokeback Mountain but I just had a hard time imagining him as The Joker.....especially when one of my favorite character performances of ALL time is Jack Nicholson's version of The Joker...

I did not like the casting choice of Ben Affleck for Daredevil when I first heard about it either but I ended up stating that I was surprised at how well he did with it and maybe I will say that about Ledger....wont know till I see it.

Lightbulb

8 Mile was semi-biographical so Eminem was basically being himself. It's not like he was taking on a complex role of somebody that lived a different life with different experiences. Playing a person who finds out they have extraordinary powers that alienate them from society, causing them to become a social outcast, is quite a bit different than playing a kid trying to win a rap contest (especially since Eminem went through that exact experience before in real life.) I am not going to say anything good or bad about him, but I cringe (which is not the same as insulting) when I hear that a famous pop star/hip hop star/rap star wants to try acting (and I did say in my column that there are always exceptions.)

Second of all I don't know of anyone who said anything bad about Heath Ledger being Joker (beyond the obligatory and totally unoriginal "Brokeback Joker" statments.) The only thing I said that may have sounded like an insult towards Ledger was that I thought either Crispin Glover or Gaspard Ulliel were two guys I thought would have been a good Joker.

Holy shit! He'd be perfect!

I love Liev Schriber. I just wanted to let everybody know that. I don't know why I had to. I really REALLY regret missing him in the stage production of Glengarry Glen Ross. Which is another movie I have to add to the "Best cast" thread, shit!

Arrow

Yeah actually Crispin Glover has always impressed me....after seeing Epic Movie I actually thought he would have made an at least as good if not better Willy Wonka over Johnny Depp.
