Steel Magnolias (1989)

Based on Robert Harling's play, this comedy-drama directed by Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) follows several years in the lives of women who regularly see one another at a beauty shop in their small Louisiana town. The story deepens as Julia Roberts, playing a serious diabetic and the daughter of Sally Field, goes downhill in her health. But as an ensemble piece, this is one of those enjoyably lumpy tearjerkers with many years' worth of stored truths suddenly being shared between the characters, lots of grievances aired, that sort of thing. I've been watching this movie for years, even my aunt is nick named after weeza haha. This movie has it's ups and downs emotionally but really tugs at them when you find out julia's character is sick. This a very good movie thats made it many years and will make it many more years to come! It's a classic.

One of the better chick flicks is this story of a bunch of Southern women whose lives centre around a hair salon.
I saw this on stage a few years ago and it just doesn't have the same resonance without Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine and the classic Sally Field breakdown scene.

THIS MOVIE IS A TEAR JERKER. IT HAS ITS FUNNY MOMENTS AND COMEDIC POINTS BUT ALL IN ALL ITS A TEAR JERKER. I LOVED IT . IT GOES TO SHOW THAT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING BAD ENOUGH, YOU'RE WILLING TO GIVE ANYTHING. THIS IS ANOTHER CLASSIC THAT I COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER---WHEN IM IN A "WANNA CRY" TYPE OF MOOD.
