Major League 1989

A baseball comedy and slob comedy rolled into one, this one actually works as entertainment, if not as a piece of cinematic mastery. James Gammon is the has-been manager hired to lead the last-place Cleveland Indians whose owner wants them to lose so she can sell them. But the team of has-beens and never-wases that he assembles (including Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen, and Wesley Snipes) develops a sense of pride and turns the team around. Those who have no appreciation of sports may still enjoy Major League. Without allowing itself to fall into farce it's extremely funny ("They tell us you're a pitcher. You're sure not much of a dresser. We wear caps and sleeves at this level, son."), without falling into melodrama it captures the loss of youth ("Those days...

There was a lousy football game on so I thought I would wait for a better one and watch this film again. I am glad i did as the game ended 40-10.
The cast of this film is what makes it. They put together a great group to do a movie that is nothing special - losers and has-beens win the pennant.

I can't help it. This is by far my favorite sports movie of all time. I saw it in the theater with my mom who was a big fan of Berenger. She took me so that she could drool over him and I could drool over Charlie Sheen (The man has NEVER looked as good in his life as he did in this movie.)
