Project X (1987)

Matthew Broderick, in one of his first grownup roles after years of playing teen heroes, stars as an air force foul-up, a pilot who, as punishment, is assigned to care for the chimps in military medical experiments. He's indignant at first but gradually warms up to his simian charges (who wouldn't?). This movie is actually rather depressing. An experimental pilot program where chimps are being used to fly in simulator modules so that the military can determine how long a pilot might be able to keep flying after being exposed to a blast (nuclear, if I remember correctly).
