Hoosiers (1986)

One of the most rousingly enjoyable sports movies ever made, this small-town drama tells the story of the Hickory Huskers, an underdog basketball team from a tiny Indiana high school that makes it all the way to the state championship tournament. It's a familiar story, but sensitive direction and a splendid screenplay helped make this one of the best films of 1986, highlighted by the superb performances of Gene Hackman as the Huskers' coach, and Oscar nominee Dennis Hopper as the alcoholic father of one of the team's key players. HOORAY FOR THE HICKORY HUSKERS!!........
I'm definitely no Basketball fan. No way, Jose. I would've never thought that I'd actually enjoy HOOSIERS as much as I did. But I did. I sure did. I even viewed it for a 2nd time.
I think that a big part of HOOSIERS' appeal is that the story is based (loosely) on actual events...

A dull film about a small town, all-white basketball team that makes it to the Indiana State Championships. I am not much one for sport's movies, however some have touched me in the past. This snorer starring Gene Hackman was not worth my time. Blah.
