Before he became an overrated filmmaker, Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) was a reporter for Rolling Stone who was so youthful looking that he could go undercover for a year at a California high school and write a book about it. Aloha, Mr Hand.
One of the best characters ever created for the silver screen is now one of the most despised actors in the view of the right wing nuts of this country. What more could you want: Sean Penn (his second film), Anthony Edwards, Eric Stoltz, Phoebe Cates, Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nicolas Cage (in his first feature film) and Forrest Whitaker in the dawn of their acting lives? This alone makes the price of a ticket worthwhile.

This movie proves why Cameron Crowe is the master of talk and characters to love.
Sean Penn walks, no stumbles, away with the movie as Jeff Spicoli. His stoner king has never been equaled, and he presented a hero for those huddled, high masses.
