The Shining (1980)
From Amazon:
Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is less an adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel than a complete reimagining of it from the inside out. In King's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretaker and provokes him to murderous rage against his wife and young son. Kubrick's movie is an existential Road Runner cartoon (his steadicam scurrying through the hotel's labyrinthine hallways), in which the cavernously empty spaces inside the Overlook mirror the emptiness in the soul of the blocked writer, who's settled in for a long winter's hibernation. As many have pointed out, King's...

Wendy Torrance (Shelley Duvall): [crying] Stay away from me.
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson): Why?
Wendy Torrance: I just wanna get back to my room!
Jack Torrance: Why?
Wendy Torrance: Well, I'm very confused, and I just need time to think things over!
Jack Torrance: You've had your whole f*ckING LIFE to think things...

I have to admit that I have never really liked 'The Shining'. As much as I love Kubrick, as much as I love horror movies, as much as I love Stephen King and Jack Nicholson, I just do not have much love for this most esteemed adaptation of arguably King's best novel, though there is very little similarity between the book...
