  Rolling Thunder (1977)

description written by member DStrange:

"Major Charles Rane (William Devane) returns home from Vietnam to find a life that is in many ways more traumatic than the war. While the community applauds his heroism and awards his bravery, he has a son that doesn't know him and a wife that's in love with another man. To make matters worse, Charlie can't sleep and is haunted by tortures he endured while in a POW camp. All this seems trivial when a gang of cutthroats led by The Texan (James Best) comes looking for a small fortune in silver dollars. They murder Charlie's family and leave him for dead, with a belly full of bullets and a mangled stump where his hand used to be. While he recovers, Charlie plots his revenge. After leaving the hospital, he sharpens his new prosthetic hook, loads his Cadillac with guns and heads off in search of the men who killed his family. With the help of a lovestruck 'groupie' (Linda Haynes) and an old war buddy (Tommy Lee Jones), Charlie sets out to do what he does best. Kill a bunch of people."
