Yep. This pretty, often spectacular, display of bright, colored lights was almost completely ruined by the Roy Neary character and his anal obsession with sculpture building.

This whole frickin' business with Neary (played by Dreyfuss) building his very own version of the Devils Tower in his living room took up about 20...

In viewing the 1977 trailer for this movie im sure that moviegoers expected something completely different than what they got. Which leaves me to believe that it wouldve bothered some people, causing them to dislike the film. I mean listen to the title CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND... sounds a bit menacing...

No, Mr. Spielberg, you can't just make movies with shiny lights. Movies must actually have plots and purpose and, hopefully, some kind of deep message.
