Clockwork Orange 1972

description written by member Rodney:

One of the only two "X" rated film to be nominated for an Oscar, A Clockwork Orange is as controversial as it is ironic. Set sometime in the Britain of tomorrow, Alexander 'Alex' de Large and his band of droogs spend their evenings terrorizing society for no other reason but boredom. Their late night adventures involve rape, beatings and listening to Beethoven. But when Alex is betrayed by his associates and left for the authorities, He takes part in a an experiment to eradicate his sinful desires. Once released from his stone prison, Alex becomes just as defenseless as the innocent victims he used to terrorize. (read more)

Clockwork Orange Movie Review by Movie Addict (8/12/2008)

Oscar nominated, BAFTA nominates, nominated, but no wins. They wanted to recognize the beauty of this film (and it was artistically fantastic), but could not bring themselves to give it award.

I have to go against the grain here, as I see this as a political statement, not a film about violence.

It is Kubrick's vision to...

Clockwork Orange Movie Review by Chris (7/3/2008)

Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating, Derby-topped teddy-boy hooligan Alex has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others. Alex's journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick's future-shook vision of Anthony...

Clockwork Orange Movie Review by Jarrod (9/9/2007)

'A Clockwork Orange' is a film of controversial ideas, provocative even today, as technology advances to a point where prisons could very well implement the methods of rehabilitation portrayed in the movie, in which a person is exposed to grotesque imagery until he is conditioned to react violently to even the thought of...

Clockwork Orange Movie Review by Lisa (5/3/2007)

This was without a doubt Kubrick's most prominent film.... even my kid sister who is not familiar with Kubrick knows that he's the guy responsible for the highly controversial movie "Clock Work Orange".

I had to wait patiently until after Kubrick's death in 99' when the UK finally lifted the ban on this movie and showed...
