House of Usher (1960)

The film opens on Philip Winthrop riding through a twisted, burned-out forest. His destination is the titular house, where he finds himself most unwelcome. Despite his efforts to whisk his fianceé Madeline away from the clutches of her tragic, haunted brother Roderick, Philip finds himself stymied. In order to save his beloved, he must unravel why Roderick believes the family line is cursed, and how Madeline fits into this obsession. (read more)

This was the first American Internation Pictures color film and was a collaboration between Roger Corman and the studio to make stories based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe.
Besides using color, they also added a real star, Vincent Price. What a coup! Price was perfect for the role of Roderick and made the film so much...
