Blood and Roses 1960


Carmilla (Annette Vadim), jealous of her friend's engagement, seeks an answer to her troubles in the tomb of a female vampire. Possessed by this evil spirit, Carmilla is compelled to kill the inhabitants of a remote country estate. French favorite Roger Vadim directs his real-life wife in this tale of passion and terror, which also features Mel Ferrer as Leopoldo De Karnstein and Elsa Martinelli as Georgia Monteverdi.

An art house horror movie. Probably missed by horror fans, the film depicts a vampiress as romantic. The music by Jean Prodromidès and the cinematography by Claude Renoir certainly add to the romantic feeling throughout. A Harlequin horror film?
