Brigadoon (1954)

This Cinemascope production brought Lerner and Loewe's hit Broadway musical to the big screen with Gene Kelly and Van Johnson as the American hunters who stumble upon Brigadoon, the magical Scottish village that went to sleep in 1754 and awakens for just one day each century. MGM had originally planned to shoot this film on location in Scotland, but budget considerations turned it into a studio production, costarring Cyd Charisse as the bonny lass who wins Kelly's heart. Although it has never been ranked among the great musicals of MGM's golden age, Brigadoon has still got plenty of charm and continues to gain a loyal following....

Sometimes a movie gets a lot of Oscar nominations, and it still isn't what I would consider great. This is such a movie.
Compared to other musicals, there just seemed to be something lacking.
It couldn't have been the sound, or the costumes, or the set decoration, as they were all superb.
Maybe it was Gene Kelly. he...

There is nothing quite like seeing Cyd Charisse dance. She is long and lean with the most incredible set of gams in screen history. Like a modern dance ballerina, she commands those around her with her movement.
