The Messenger 2009

description written by member Zara:

Oren Moverman's directorial debut film tells the poignant story of an injured U.S. soldier (Ben Foster) who's paired up with an off-kilter veteran (Woody Harrelson) to notify families of killed soldiers, a job that gets complicated when one of them breaks the rules. At first, the two clash while traveling around together, but eventually they form a bond, which is strained when the young combatant falls for a newly widowed military wife.

The Messenger Movie Review by Martin (7/14/2010)

Though it does verge on being way to depressing, there's no denying that "The Messenger" is a unique movie. Focussing on the soldiers who are given the job of informing the families of their loss, when their child/husband/wife is killed in action.

The Main reason I watched this was Ben Foster, who always seems to stand...

The Messenger Movie Review by Movie Addict (5/25/2010)

During my Air Force career one of the jobs I did was casualty affairs. Not the part depicted in this movie, but the front end of the job - preparing the dead for shipment and getting them home with an escort. I have always wondered how it was on the other end, and this film gives an outstanding view of that.

The Messenger Movie Review by Jarrod (11/25/2009)

'The Messenger' effectively utilizes the innate volatility of Ben Foster, who is often relegated to villainous or psychotic roles, but sheds that persona here, and gives a stunningly complex and poignant performance, as Will Montgomery, a wounded Iraq veteran who is reassigned to casualty notification, and partnered with...
