Whip It! (2009)

Rather than competing in beauty pageants like her mom wants her to do, rebellious teen Bliss (Ellen Page) joins a female roller derby team. While fleeing the drudgery of small town life, Bliss meets tough new friends and experiences plenty of painful lessons. Drew Barrymore pulls double duty directing and acting in this coming-of-age tale based on Shauna Cross's novel. Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig and Jimmy Fallon co-star.

WARNING: I am involved with the current roller derby flat track trend and am biased because I know how important the sport is to my girls. Therefore, it's hard to overlook some of the technical problems with this movie.
I'd really love to be able to give this movie 4 or more stars, but the main problem that I have with it...

Ok we'll start with the good. Firstly I love lil Ellen Page the girls got grit and I got respect for the roles she chooses, but seeing Zoe Bell the kick ass Kiwi stunt woman from "Death Proof" really put a smile on my face.
