A Serious Man 2009

description written by member Zara:

When his wife (Sari Wagner) leaves him for one of his colleagues, physics professor Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg) admits it's time to become a more serious man. But there's so much holding him back from spiritual greatness -- including a freeloading brother (Richard Kind) and two useless kids. Joel Coen and Ethan Coen helm this autobiographically inspired black comedy set in 1960s Minnesota. Aaron Wolff and Jessica McManus co-star.

A Serious Man Movie Review by Movie Addict (4/16/2010)

I certainly did not expect a film about uncertainty and duality from the Coen brothers. To require a familiarity with Schroedinger's Cat, or the Book of Job, or Jewish culture may be too much for the average viewer.

But, this is the movie you get to make after you have won an Oscar (No Country For Old Men); a labor of...

A Serious Man Movie Review by Martin (4/11/2010)

"A Serious man" is without doubt one of the most over-praised, boring, and irritating films I have ever seen.

Most movies made by the Coen brothers are praised as masterpieces, but I have to say that I don't find most of them to be that way when I get round to watching them for myself. Their latest though, an apparently...

A Serious Man Movie Review by Zara (2/14/2010)

This is going to have to be relegated to the pile of "I don't get it" films from the Coen brothers. They seem to have a knack for making movies which really get me, capture my attention and imagination and have me talking about them for weeks. Or they make a movie like this one, making me feel much like I just read a...

A Serious Man Movie Review by Jarrod (10/9/2009)

Joel and Ethan Coen have yet to make a bad, or even mediocre film. Having started their career with Raising Arizona and Blood Simple, and then churning out masterpieces like Fargo and No Country for Old Men (which netted them multiple Oscars), they have done enough to qualify as two of American cinema's finest directors....
