The Stepfather 2009

description written by member Zara:

Upon returning home from military school, Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) discovers that his mother (Sela Ward) has invited her boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh), to live with them. But something about the new beau doesn't sit right with Michael. Before long, a series of mysterious events leads the teen to suspect that David might in fact be a notorious serial killer. Amber Heard also stars in this spine-tingling remake of the 1987 thriller.

The Stepfather Movie Review by Joe (7/19/2011)

Another useless, lackluster, boring old routine of a movie remake is just how this movie should be simply put. The central, same formulaic plot with the mother meeting a guy, falling for him, getting married and this new stepfather being one total dick is here of course. There are teenage girls screaming everywhere, when...

The Stepfather Movie Review by Movie Addict (4/15/2011)

This is supposedly based upon real events in New Jersey in the 70s, as if that makes it better. It is also supposedly an exact remake of the 1987 film of the same name. I was interested in that, as I have not been able to catch the original, which had two sequels. I did see the second one.

First off, something cannot be a...

The Stepfather Movie Review by Martin (10/17/2010)

Considering I've never seen let alone heard of the original "The Stepfather" movie, and I usually despise remakes. Maybe I should of checked out the 1987 flick first before this one. As it is though I watched this as if it were a brand NEW movie (something Hollywood seems unable to produce these days!) which seems fair as...

The Stepfather Movie Review by Mike Thomas (5/30/2010)

There are three cardinal sins that can be done when doing a remake of a movie:
- the remake is nowhere as good as the original,
- the remake is so different you wonder why it's called a remake, or
- the remake is exactly the same as the original

We saw an example of #3 in the 1999 Gus Van Sant remake of Alfred Hitchcock's...

The Stepfather Movie Review by Bennie (3/7/2010)

Nelson McCormick's The Stepfather is a remake of the 1987 cult classic of the same name. I liked it about as much as the original. It does have some things going for it that the first one didn't: a bigger budget, Penn Badgley with his shirt off, more suspense in my opinion, and finally Penn Badgley with his shirt off. I...
