What Goes Up (2009)

Frustrated reporter Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan) is sent to cover the launch of the Challenger space shuttle and finds a whole other story in a group of traumatized local high school students, all of whom are touched by the launch's tragic aftermath. Writer-director Jonathan Glatzer's wry feature debut co-stars Molly Shannon as mousy Penelope, Hilary Duff as sultry high school senior Lucy and Andrew Wheeler as the principal.

Oh dear lord, another depressing movie in which you take a lot of interesting young actors, add a couple of interesting aged actors, give the movie no plot but attach it to a national tragedy (in this case it's the explosion of The Challenger in 1986).
All of these things might be interesting if you had just the right...
