Back in the Day (2005)
Reggie (Ja Rule) has to deal with the events that unfold after his father is brutally shot down just fifty feet away from him. Looking for guidance in the world, Reggie turns to street thug J-Bone (Rhames), despite the disapproval from his mother (Grier). When one of their escapades leads to a preacher being shot and killed, Reggie begins to think about his decisions in life. Eventually, he gets into a relationship with the daughter (Ali) of the man he shot. The police begin to piece the case together when they get their hands on Reggie's gun.

It is difficult to rate a writer/director's first effort. After all, it is one more movie than I have written or directed. James Hunter wrote a story that was interesting, but suffered from an uneven flow.
After all, the idea that a man (Ja Rule) has to choose between the thug life and going straight is common, and even...
