Wings (1928)

The precurser to the popular film "Pearl Harbor," Wings tells the story of two young men, working-class Jack Powell and David Armstrong, the son of the richest family in town, as they sign up to train as pilots during World War I. Both fancy themselves rivals for the affection of classy Sylvia Lewis, though in truth she only has feelings for David. Jack, meanwhile, is mostly oblivious to the interest of tomboyish girl-next-door Mary Preston, though she will also make her way to Europe, joining the army as a driver.

Yes, parts of it are extremely corny, and some of the expressions are laughable, and sitting through two and a half hours of a silent film and the accompanying organ music may be a bit much for many people, but this film has to be experienced.
