Snow Angels (2008)

Set in the 1970s, this indie drama starring Kate Beckinsale intertwines parallel stories about teenager Arthur Parkinson (Michael Angarano) and his former baby sitter, Annie Marchand (Beckinsale). Once the object of Arthur's boyhood infatuation, small-town waitress Annie heads down a fateful path after enduring a stormy relationship with her estranged spouse (Sam Rockwell). The supporting cast includes Olivia Thirby and Griffin Dunne.

I watched this movie because it was on the Top Ten of the year lists of a couple of the people I admire and because I normally like Sam Rockwell, so I figured that its dismal theme wouldn't bother me as much as long as the movie were good with good people.
