While undergoing a heart transplant, Clay (Hayden Christensen) experiences "anesthetic awareness," a condition that allows him to see and feel everything that's happening to him but leaves him paralyzed and unable to do anything about it. The basic premise of 'Awake' is that a young man named Clay Beresford (Christensen) does not succumb to anesthesia, and is fully aware of what is happening to him during open-heart surgery. He feels every incision, as scalpels cut into his chest. He can hear what the doctors say as they operate on him. But he cannot...
