The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Scaphandre et le papillon, Le) (2007)

description written by member Zara:

"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" [AKA: Scaphandre et le papillon, Le] tells the story Elle France editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who, in 1995 at the age of 43, suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye. Using that eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he'd only visited in his mind.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Scaphandre et le papillon, Le) Movie Review by B Movie Ben (5/12/2008)

Seldom do we get to see such a beautiful and moving picture.

Director Julian Schnabel (Before Night Falls) and writer Ronald Harwood (The Pianist) gave us a story that warms the heart and makes us appreciate just what we have in life. "...two things aren't paralyzed, my imagination and my memory." We get to share both in...

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Scaphandre et le papillon, Le) Movie Review by Zara (5/10/2008)

Let's be REAL honest here, as you know that I'm not particularly capable of doing anything else.

When you get down to the core of this film, the real heart of it, it is the story which is 5 star. The former editor of the fashion magazine Elle has a massive stroke is sunk into a 3 month coma. When he wakes up from it, his...

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Scaphandre et le papillon, Le) Movie Review by Matthew (12/13/2007)

Generally, films containing series of disassociative images, tons of POV shots and dream sequences are immediate turn-offs for me. I like my films to have stories and I like those stories to be linear. For the most part.

So, it is more than a little surprising that I liked Julian Schnabel's new film "The Diving Bell and...
