The Reaping (2007)

A small, highly religious town in Texas is being plagued by happenings described in the bible. They hire in a myth debunker to determine the source of the plagues, although even she is skeptical about it being caused by scientific events.

No doubt in my mind. This movie accomplished two things. It was a chance to watch Hillary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Boy's Don't Cry), and it was an interesting thriller.

I actually kinda liked this film. While I would be better off saying that I couldn't stand it due to its religious ties (and various strange inaccuracies in a film that purports to be debunking the myths) what with me being the devout non-believer and all, I will just simply state that I liked it.

I was able to view a screener of The Reaping tonight. I knew going into this film that it was supposed to be suspenseful but it really could almost be classified as a suspense/horror film. There is a lot of jumpy parts, many audience members jumped during several scenes.
