Shooter (2007)

An expert sniper (Wahlberg) has basically retired and is living in exclusion. He is allured back into action by an assassination plot against the president of the United States. When he is double crossed and framed for the attempt he must now stay on the run and try to unveil who the real killer is and why he was setup.

"Shooter" is one of those action films with such an improbable plot that it begs you to find it ridiculous and laugh at it. It is a ridiculous film, but a strangely engaging one.

I liked Mark Wahlberg in Invincible, and hated him in The Departed, but I think this is where he really will find his niche. He is perfect as a Marine that is conned by greedy politicians and military brass and who dons a Rambo persona (with intelligence) to take revenge.
