Reign Over Me (2007)

Charlie Fineman (Sandler) lost his whole family in the 9/11 terror attacks against the United States. Alan Johnson (Cheadle) is distressed with his personal and career life. Years ago the two use to be college roomates and friends. At the right time they bump into each other and realize that a good friend is what each of them need to get their lives back in order.

I believe that the angle of the 911 widow/widower is being overdone recently. But once you throw out that angle in this movie, what you're left with is a very strong film about grief and how to deal with the loss of people that are important to you.

I really wanted to like this film. I remember reading about it before it was released and thinking that it sounded really interesting. Also the cast seemed great being that you had Sandler, Tyler and Cheadle.

Attempts great depth, but falls when failing to keep the thread tight. Both Sandler and Cheadle are good in the film. There's no lack of decent acting here. The problem with the film is that at times you feel like the idea for film is being stretched. It's clear what Adam Sandler's problem is. He lost his family in 9/11,...

I think you should see this movie. Yes, you. Even if you aren't an Adam Sandler fan you should see this movie. Mike Binder has given Adam Sandler the perfect chance to prove that he can do something besides comedy and quirky dramas like Punch Drunk Love. And Sandler delivers what just might be an Oscar worthy performance...
