Tideland (2006)
After her mother dies from a heroin overdose, Jeliza-Rose is taken from the big city to a rural farmhouse by her father. As she tries to settle into a new life in her mother's childhood home, Jeliza-Rose's attempts to deal with what's happened result in increasingly odd behavior, as she begins to communicate mainly with her bodiless Barbie doll heads and Dell, a neighborhood woman who always wears a beekeeper's veil. "Tideland", from director Terry Gilliam, is quite intense and it reminded me of Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" in some way. Through the eyes of a young girl we see what she does and quite possibly believe.
Gilliam is an underrated filmmaker and I think that it does not bother him at all. He has given us...

The DVD begins with a warning from director Terry Gilliam. He says that most people won't get it, but he hopes a few will. He says that the film is very disturbing, but you have to put yourself in the little girl's shoes. The entire film is from her perspective, and you have to imagine the sense of wonder that a child...

Probably the weirdest film I have ever seen. It's very hard to rate this because I have never been more confused in my life. It's not that the plot is confusing, because the plot is very simple. It's the imagination of Terry Gilliam which disturbs me. He's had my respect ever since he was a member of the Monty Python...
