Half Nelson (2006)
description written by member Zara:
Ryan Fleck's feature film debut tells the story of an unlikely friendship that helps a self-destructive educator pull it together. In his struggle to balance his personal and professional lives, inner-city teacher Dan Dunne (Ryan Gosling, in an Oscar-nominated role) spends most of his time nursing hangovers. But who could've known that a life-changing lesson would come from one of his students (Shareeka Epps)? Gosling and Epps both won Independent Spirit awards for their lead roles.

As a...

"Half Nelson" is probably not a film you have heard of. And that's a shame. An independent film starring Ryan Gosling ("The Notebook", "Murder By Numbers"), released by a very small independent company, it will be difficult for most to find this film, but it is well worth the effort to search for it. I first heard of it...

As a teacher, basketball coach, and functioning drug addict, Ryan Gosling fits into this role like a glove. He had to make us believe he was all three and he accomplished just that. While he is being all these things, main character Mr. Dunne, or Dan, has to convince himself that there is something in this world worth...

Ryan Gosling and Shareeka Epps were just plain awesome in this film by Ryan Fleck.
Gosling was impressive as an addict that was trying to hold on and teach. You could see the constant struggle as he fought giving up. The back and forth with Epps was quietly enchanting. Both certainly showed great acting talent in this...
