Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
Lucky Number Slevin" is a comic thriller that twists and turns its way through an underworld of crime and revenge where nothing is as it seems. Set in New York City, a case of mistaken identity lands Slevin (Josh Hartnett) into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most notorious rival crime bosses: The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and The Boss (Morgan Freeman). Slevin is under constant surveillance by relentless Detective Brikowski (Stanley Tucci) as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat (Bruce Willis) and finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to escape the maze alive.

If I were to have given up on this movie a third of the way in, after feeling like I was being bashed over the head by its "cleverer than thou" attitude, I wouldn't have enjoyed the final outcome. In the end, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVEN is a good movie, but it starts off like a badly told tale and most of the people in it wear...

It really bugs me when characters in a film make a reference to an actual, better film. In "Lucky Number Slevin", two characters talk about Hitchcock's "North by Northwest", indicating the great film is similar to the exploits of the "real people" we are watching. Really, the only similarity is the case of mistaken...

Twists are kookie things. Mishandled and/or overused, such as in a craptastic film like Reindeer Games, and they simply add pretentiousness to an already listless story. If the film is otherwise boring save the twist, such as most of Shyamalan's crap, you get a pony worthy of a single trick. If the twist is simply a tool...
