Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) (2006)
Set in contemporary Moscow, "Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)" revolves around the conflict and balance maintained between the forces of light and darkness -- the result of a medieval truce between the opposing sides. As night falls, the dark forces battle the super-human "Others" of the Night Watch, whose mission is to patrol and protect. But there is constant fear that an ancient prophecy will come true: that a powerful "Other" will rise up, be tempted by one of the sides, and tip the balance plunging the world into a renewed war between the dark and light, the results of which would be catastrophic. "Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)" is the first installment of a trilogy based on the best-selling sci-fi novels of Sergei Lukyanenko entitled Night Watch, Day Watch and Dusk Watch. (read more)

Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) Movie Review by Zara (3/13/2007) |

I loved, loved, loved this movie. There really is nothing that I like more than a well told vampire story, especially one that deals with Russian accents and kick ass dark scenery punctuated with killer shape-shifting. How could someone ask for more?

The first of a trilogy. I watched the second film first, so now I'll get to see what brought about the situation that exists in Moscow in 1992, some 650 years after the truce between the forces of the light and the dark.
The balance of power has been upset, and it remains to be seen if the new Other joins the forces of...

From Russia, With Love (?).
Ummm... Like, haven't I seen this, in one way, or another, all before?
NIGHT WATCH is a choice example of a small, insignificant foreign film trying its absolute damnedest to be something big and important.
NIGHT WATCH is utter 'Supernatural Nonsense' to the extreme.
From my perspective -...

I am still a little on the fence on how I feel about this movie. There was plenty for me to like and not much for me to hate. They were a bit vague in how the "others" became others, but in a way the definition sounded a bit like mutants or metahumans (comic book enthusiasts will know what those things are.)
